  • UAE Companies Must Pay Salaries on the 1st of Every Month From June 2026
UAE salary payment regulation

If you own a business in the UAE there is a payroll update you should know about. Starting June 2026 private companies will have to pay employee salaries on the day of every month through the Wage Protection System or WPS. The UAE government wants to make salary payments more organised and reduce delays faced by employees. Many companies already pay salaries on time. This new rule makes it clear for everyone.

So What Exactly Is Changing?

Until now some businesses had flexibility in handling payroll dates.. Under the new system salaries for the previous month should be paid on the 1st day of the next month.

That means:

  1. June salaries will be paid on July 1
  2. July salaries will be paid on August 1

The WPS system can automatically detect payments

Why This Matters for Businesses

For companies with structured payroll systems this may not change much. For small businesses and startups now is a good time to review how salaries are being managed. Delays that were once overlooked can now create compliance issues quickly.

Late salary payments may lead to:

  • Warnings from authorities
  • Delays in labour-related approvals
  • Work permit restrictions
  • Financial penalties in cases

Regular salary delays can affect employee trust and company reputation.

A Push Towards Better Business Practices

The UAE has been improving policies over the years and this update is part of that. The goal is to create a work environment where employees feel secure and businesses operate more professionally.

For employees timely salaries bring stability.

For employers organised payroll systems help avoid problems.

What Businesses Should Do Before June 2026

If your company still handles payroll manually or close to deadlines make an adjustments early.

Businesses should:

  • Check their setup
  • Review payroll timelines
  • Coordinate with HR and finance teams
  • Keep employee records updated
  • Avoid last-minute salary processing

Planning ahead now can help businesses avoid stress later.
